In January, the NCMCA Western Carolina Chapter held their annual Winter Social in Hickory.  The highlight of the evening was the announcement of two "Founders Awards," the chapter's annual recognition of members who have made exemplary contribution to the chapter, to NCMCA, the masonry industry and the community.  Awarded posthumously were Glenn W. Sipe and Carl E, Moser, Sr.  Both men were instrumental in starting the Western Carolina Chapter of the Mason Contractors Association of America in the sixties, which would eventually evolve into NCMCA.  Both men were Life Members of the Western Carolina Chapter and served as chapter presidents on several occasions.  Mr. Sipe was the first president of NCMCA and was inducted into the MCAA Masonry Hall of Fame in 2012.  Mr. Moser passed in 2012 and Mr. Sipe in 2014.  Pictured bottom, left to right, Lauren, Jackson, Mason, and Dylan Moser, great grandchildren.  Back row, left to right, Western Carolina Chapter President Larry Kirby; Mandi, Donna, and Kevin Moser; Glenn Sipe’s grandson Jeff Sipe; Carl Moser, Jr.; Trey and Ann Moser, and NCMCA President Kent Huntley.  Dinner was made possible by Adams/Oldcastle, Hydro Rents Carolina, Kerr's HRM Concrete, RBD & Associates, Eckard Brick Cleaning, Statesville Brick Company, ACT Equipment Company, Triangle Brick Company, and L & D Investments.  In addition to members of the Sipe and Moser family, special guests included NCMCA President-Elect Danks Burton with wife Joanne; NCMCA Workforce Development & Training Coordinator Ryan Shaver with wife Brandy; and NCMCA President Kent Huntley with wife Robin along with several NCMCA prospective members.
